Technology companies like Samsung are interested in filing various patents for digital devices, but not all of these patents necessarily lead to the actual product. For this reason, it is not possible to take the design of all published patents seriously. In this regard, Samsung has released a new and strange patent that looks like a sliding clamshell phone. This patent of Samsung was sent to WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) on June 10, 2021 (June 20, 1400) and was recently registered on December 16 (December 25).

This patent Described as a "folding and sliding electronic device", it describes a device that appears to be out of place to bend its folding display in any way possible. The first thing we see in this patent is its foldable aspect. This is conceptually simple enough, though we have not yet seen anything other than the original designs.

The idea behind this design is probably that you can drag the bottom of the screen to remove the part that is like a drawer under the body of the phone and see a larger screen. This means that users can pull out a larger screen and use it if they need it. Understanding the design concept of this sliding folding display is easy, but on the other hand, how Samsung intends to implement this design is very difficult.

However, perhaps the most interesting and confusing design of this patent is a method. Where the screen can be folded. Part of the display panel appears to be detached in front of the rolling mechanism with a hinge underneath. Published images of this patent show that the hinge can slide with the rest of the display components when rotated in or out of the body, using a total of four rollers.

This design is very similar to the design Samsung's current clamshell phones, the hinge of which allows part of the screen to be up and away from the body of the phone. We assume that this hinge acts like the hinge used in current clamshells when adjusting the angle to the freedom display. It should be noted, however, that this design does not appear to support the ability to close the screen completely without creating wrinkles.

What you can apparently do with such a display depends on how far you have the screen. If you rotate the size, you can determine how far the screen is in or out. Using this type of display is probably the biggest question mark in the minds of users. Of course, we should note that Samsung has not released more information about this patent, and we should finally wait for more news about the design of this display to be available to us in the future.

As you probably know, the Korean technology giant with Having a 93% share of the clamshell smartphone market, it was able to taste success in this field and it definitely needs to offer different clamshell phones to continue this trend. The story of Samsung clamshell smartphones began in 2019, when the Korean company did its job with the launch of the Galaxy Fold. The product had many weaknesses and many users thought that the Korean company would fail in this project and the dream of producing clamshell smartphones would be postponed for a few more years. But this did not happen and users and enthusiasts welcomed this attractive product.

per year In 2020, Samsung continued this trend by introducing two foldable models, the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip, and this year, the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip 3 have helped Samsung to conquer the clamshell phone market. In this regard, one of the reputable Korean sites reported that the company intends to launch 2.9 million Galaxy Z Fold 4 units and 9.6 million Galaxy Z Flip 4 units next year, with a total of 8.9 million Samsung clamshell phones. We will see.

On the other hand, it is said that Samsung has set a goal of producing 2.5 to 3 million Z-Fold 3s and 3.5 to 4 million Z-Flip 3s. In other words, if these statistics are correct, the production of Samsung clamshell phones in 2022 will be significantly higher than this year.
