Qualcomm and Microsoft work on augmented reality glasses chips

Last night, at CES 2022, Qualcomm and Microsoft announced the development of a new generation of custom chips for augmented reality glasses. These chips are said to be used for new Microsoft glasses, which are very low consumption and light. In addition, the two companies plan to integrate related platforms to make the final products more attractive.

It should be noted that the two companies have been working extensively in this area over the past few years. For example, the HoloLens 2 headset, introduced in 2019, uses a Qualcomm chip. In recent years, Qualcomm has also paid more attention to the development of augmented and virtual reality-focused chips, such as the Snapdragon XR2 used for the Oculus Quest 2. In addition, Microsoft and Qualcomm have previously worked together on custom SQ1 and SQ2 chips in the Surface Pro X.

The integration of the software platforms of the two companies is also very important. These two platforms are used in the field of augmented reality in different gadgets. The Microsoft Mesh platform, for example, leverages the ability to connect between augmented reality headsets, smartphones, tablets and computers. Given that this statement specifically mentions the collaboration on the production of ultra-light augmented reality glasses, it is quite clear that the two companies have a lot of plans in this area and we have to see when these attractive products will reach the users./p>
