It is also said that in June (early summer - late spring), Google will end support for this platform in Chrome 115, which is considered the stable version of this browser. There are V2 and their number is increasing, but since June, no more plugins can be added to this platform. It also seems that in 2024, all the extensions of this platform will be completely removed from the Chrome store. According to the information we have, this platform now restricts ad blocking plugins more than before, which Google claims, the purpose of this restriction is to improve the privacy and security of users. Google also claims that this platform is the biggest change that has been applied in the last ten years in the Chrome extension sector, but the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is completely against this claim. This organization says that if Google really cares about the privacy and security of its users, it should use real people to protect the security of its store instead of restricting plugins. Chrome exists, this is exactly the limitation of ad blocker extensions. As it seems, in Manifest V3, instead of using the web request API, Google has considered a new API called declarativeNetRequest, which makes it possible for developers of ad blocker plugins to block only a specific set of URLs. In fact, the main problem here is that the number of URL entries in the new platform reaches 30,000, but currently the ad blocking plugins have the capacity of 300,000 entries. It has not been well received by a number of people, whether the popularity of Chrome will decrease or not.
