As you know, chips are becoming more powerful every year than the year before, and one of the reasons for this is the improved design. As the number of transistors on the chip increases every year, the chip, while shrinking in size and helping to generate less heat, benefits from more transistors that enable it to do more. Do it in a certain amount of time.

The more transistors and the smaller the chip, the more energy it will save. Now, with this New design, Samsung and IBM have succeeded in installing transistors vertically on the chip, which makes it possible to place more transistors on the surface of the chip. Imagine a situation where, for example, you want to group a bunch of sticks on a flat surface so that they do not overlap. Naturally, if you put them together vertically, that is, if the bottom part of them is next to each other, you will get a much better result than if you want to put them together horizontally. This is exactly the case with chips.

Transistor technology has long been popular with chip companies. Even the current FinFET technology uses it in some way. one of the companies that has shown interest in using this New design is Intel, which it will apparently use to design its chips in the future. Of course, at the moment, the focus is more on classifying the components of the chip than on any transistor that makes sense. Naturally, when there is no way to add more chips to a surface, the only thing that can be done is to change the placement of the chips, not to reduce their number.

We will not use New VTFET technology in consumer chips. Firstly because Samsung and IBM just unveiled it and secondly because it has to be tested a lot to be used as a reliable technology in the chips that are going to reach users.

IBM unveiled the first 2-nanometer chip earlier this year. Which uses another technology to increase the number of transistors. The design of this chip uses the same current FinFET technology, but it seems that with VTFET, everything is going to change dramatically, although it seems that we will not be able to use it in the real world any time soon.

Of course, only IBM and Samsung have not taken steps to replace FinFET chip technology. one of the world's largest processor manufacturers, Intel, also unveiled its unique technology this summer as a replacement for FinFET. This technology, called RibbonFET, is scheduled to be used in the company's products in 2024.
