New images from Mars show a stunning view of the depths of Mariner Canyon, the largest canyon in the solar system.

Images by the space agency Europa (ESA) captured incredible detail of the canyon floor using the Mars Express spacecraft and the spacecraft's High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC).

Unlike the Grand Canyon, which was formed by the Colorado River, scientists believe that Valles Marineris was formed by the separation of tectonic plates. As seen in the new images, this massive and violent movement has caused the uneven floor of the Martian valley. It is as attractive as the Grand Canyon. It appears that when the tectonic plates pulled apart, they created jagged triangular rocks that look like rows of shark teeth.

The European Space Agency's Mars Express spacecraft, which has been orbiting the Red Planet since 2003, over two craters that form the western part of Mariner Valley It is zoomed in: "Ius Chasma" and "Tithonium Chasma". These images not only show the incredible detail of the surface, but also highlight the impressive size of the trenches (surface depressions).

According to the European Space Agency statement, Mariner Valley is 4,000 km long, 200 km wide and deep. 7 km, it is almost ten times longer, 20 times wider and five times deeper than the Grand Canyon. Ayos Chasma is 840 km long on the southern side of the valley, and Titonium Chasma is 805 km long on the northern side. If Mariner Valley were on Earth, it would span the distance from the northern tip of Norway to the southern tip of Sicily.

European Space Agency probe view of the two Great Mariner Valley Rifts, different surface features of Mars which includes: dark sand dunes created by volcanic activity, mountain-sized mounds eroded by wind, smaller ridges that may have formed from the evaporation of accumulated water in the distant past, and fissures and evidence which tell about surface slides and collapse of the valley wall.

Various spacecraft that are studying the Mariner Valley have found evidence that may have once been filled with liquid water. Among other things, the Mars Express mission detected signs of hydrous sulfate minerals in the region of Ios Chasma and Titonium Chasma, and the Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) as part of the ExoMars mission detected water ice under the surface of Condor. Chasma" (Candor Chaos) has been detected near the center of the huge valley system.
