After the release of this phone, its dark screen was widely criticized. It should be noted that OLED displays provided less light than LCD displays for several years. Also, due to the small size of this display, the presentation of deep black color was not very noticeable and did not have much to say about color accuracy.
After the failure of the S88, there was no news of OLED displays for about two years. But in 2008, the Nokia N85 arrived with a 2.6-inch OLED display, which was noticed thanks to a resolution of 240 x 320 and display of 16 million colors. The phone was based on the Symbian operating system and uses a 5-megapixel camera. It is worth mentioning that its previous generation, N95, is one of the most famous phones in history.

In 2010, Samsung unveiled the first phone with a Super AMOLED display called the S8500 Wave. Samsung, which at the time tested Android, Windows Mobile, and Symbian operating systems, developed a new operating system called Bada, and Wave series phones used this operating system.
It used a 3.3-inch Super AMOLED with a resolution of 480 x 800. Super AMOLED is the name chosen by Samsung for the technology developed by the company, and in Super AMOLED displays, the touch panel is integrated with the display itself and therefore has a smaller thickness.
Some time later, it became possible to make OLED displays on a plastic surface, and therefore gained an important advantage over LCD technology. Thanks to this approach, it became possible to make curved screens. Samsung and LG unveiled a number of phones based on curved screens, which, of course, did not receive much attention.
Another advantage of using OLED screens is the possibility of using a fingerprint sensor under the screen. In 2018, Vivo launched the first phone equipped with this feature, and now this technology is used in a large number of phones.
Following this trend, ZTE last year introduced the first phone with a selfie camera under the screen. The display and selfie camera of this phone did not have much to say, but some time ago ZTE launched a phone equipped with the second generation of this technology, which has improved in both areas. Other companies have taken action in this regard, among which we can mention Xiaomi and Samsung.
Now, after reviewing the history of using old screens for mobile phones, what future awaits this technology? Two new technologies are currently a major threat to older displays; Mini-LED and microLED technologies.
