As it seems, Google has agreed with Samsung that as long as the Korean company continues to make foldable phones, Google will also work on Android 12L development.

Although IFA 2022 is over, there is an important piece of news that has just been released. This news is related to the agreement that Samsung and Google have made with each other on Android 12L. As it seems, Google has made a big request from Samsung for the development of Android 12L.

Quoted by Frandroid website, Samsung Vice President Eugene Hong, during a press interview, from his first talks with Google. He has talked about the operating system of folding phones. At the beginning of the interview, he said about the enthusiasm of both parties to work on this project and explained:

Every time we have a new design, we have to cooperate with Google. First of all, this collaboration is because of our passion. I remember the first time we talked to each other in the presence of developers, managers, Samsung product team and Google product team, everyone was talking about this project with great enthusiasm. As a developer, I got a great sense of all the enthusiasm. Everyone was saying, "That's great," and it was really exciting. Because we felt that we were finally working on a real innovation.

At the end of the interview, Hong also mentioned what Google wanted from Samsung in exchange for designing an operating system for foldable phones. According to the information published by the vice president of Samsung, Google considered working on Android 12L as part of its duty and committed to it. In return, it expects the same commitment from Samsung.

Google's expectation from Samsung is in the form of an agreement in which both parties have agreed to perform their duties in the best possible way. It means that Samsung should produce a foldable phone every year and Google should work on the development of an operating system for foldable phones every year. Regarding this issue, Hong added:

Are we going to produce a foldable phone every year? This was the question that Google raised. Naturally, the answer to this question was a bit complicated because we are talking about technology. We didn't know what would happen when we put this product on the market. Maybe a crazy thing! Anything was possible. But we are fully committed. We have decided to follow this path and overcome the difficulties. So we said we were going to do it. In that meeting, we committed to do this. It felt good to say: "Yes, we will do it".

We don't know why Google made such a request to Samsung, and Hong has not given any explanation in this regard. But we know that Google is working on the production of a foldable phone. This means that even if Samsung does not make a foldable phone, Google itself will need a special operating system for this product. Maybe Google's request from Samsung is because this Korean company will make the way for Google to produce a foldable phone smoother. It should not be forgotten that Google and Samsung, apart from the cooperation they have with each other, are also known as competitors in the market.
