According to reports, it seems that Splinter Cell remake is going to change the story of the game for today's audience.

This news comes on the heels of an announcement to hire a writer to work on a game at Ubisoft's Toronto studio. The job description states:

Using the first installment of the Splinter Cell series as the basis for this remake, we are rewriting and changing the story for today's audience. We want to keep the spirit and themes of the original game while updating our characters and the world to make them more believable. As a writer at Ubisoft Toronto, you will join the narrative team and help create a cohesive narrative for new audiences.

The first installment of the Splinter Cell series was released in 2002. This classic stealth game is a spy work, and its story tells that Sam Fisher, as an agent of the US National Security Agency, is sent to Georgia to investigate the disappearance of two CIA agents, and is gradually exposed to a conspiracy that includes genocide in Azerbaijan. And it reveals a cyber attack on the United States. However, the game takes place in 2004 and many elements of such a story have changed a lot in the last 20 years. It should also be said that the usual political issues in the story of this series are not very attractive now compared to 2002. Considering these things, it seems that the game writers will have a difficult road ahead.

The Splinter Cell remake was announced in late 2021. Ubisoft Toronto is developing this game using the Snowdrop engine. The engine that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be made with. However, the production team has been tight-lipped since then. The only thing we know about the game right now is that it will be a linear work like the original. On the other hand, the existence of a modern day story for Sam Fisher can be interesting.
