10 side stories of games that are more interesting than the main story

Side stories are meant to be complementary to the main story, and their purpose can be many things: to provide humorous entertainment, to address the game's themes from a different angle, and to provide Giving the characters a chance to rest between important events. Of course, sometimes sub-stories are just redundant content. But what they all have in common is that they are second in importance to the main story. Perhaps this characteristic of them gives the impression that they are not as interesting and meaningful as the main story, right?

10. Dominic's love for Maria in the Gears of War series (Gears of War series: Dominic's love for Maria)

Platform: Microsoft consoles and computers Personal
Released: 2006 to present

BingMag.com 10 side stories of games that are more interesting than the main story

The games in the Gears of War series are great for many reasons. But perhaps the most important reason was the development of third-person shooter games. However, it must be admitted that the story of these games does not have much to offer. These games are located on a fictional planet where there is a war between humans and aliens called Locusts. Some people are interested in the story background of the game, and in my opinion, the overall world building of the series is very interesting. However, the game's story is full of common sci-fi clichs, and beyond that there isn't much to be found. Of course, keep in mind that the goal is not to criticize the games in the collection. Gears of War games are worth a lot for their revolutionary gameplay, awesome gameplay, and nasty and tough enemies. The story they tell is enough for this style of game. No one expects Gears of War to show real human emotion. But this series did, but only through one of its subplots.

Most games have trouble dealing with romantic relationships. Game makers have yet to embrace this aspect of storytelling. But for me, one of the best romantic relationships in video games was depicted in this series. Dominique is one of Marcus's companions. Throughout the play he is constantly talking about his wife Maria and celebrating his love for her. His main motivation for fighting under Marcus is to find him again and join him. He finds Maria again, but unfortunately, Maria was subjected to torture and because of this, she was deeply traumatized. He is practically a living corpse. Dominic kills him to end his suffering.

This is a truly human moment in the game that will most likely bring tears to your eyes.

9. Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift: Duelhorn clan story (Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift: Duelhorn clan story)

Platform: Nintendo DS
Year of release: 2007

BingMag.com 10 side stories of games that are more interesting than the main story

This game is one of the most disappointing sequels of all time. It is, because it comes after one of the best games of all time with one of the best and deepest stories of all time, but it is an average game with practically no story (I'm not referring to the Advance series games; I mean the original Tactics game itself). In the game, there is a MacGuffin (an important object whose nature is not important) in the form of a grimoire (spellbook). The nation is looking for it and then it falls into the hands of a magician or someone or something (sorry, I didn't pay attention to the story of the game). The main character of the game, Luso Clemens (Luso Clemens) is very stereotypical and is exactly the type of main character that we are used to since childhood (a lovable wrecker). The bottom line is that this game is not good.

But there is one part of the game that is very entertaining, and that is the story of the Dolhorn clan members.

First of all, the members This clan is not black and white villains. They are your enemies, but you don't get the feeling that they hate you. They are pragmatic and intelligent, and because of this, they excel in other aspects of the game. Even one of them will go out of his way to make sure no innocent person gets hurt. The leader of these enemies, Marquis, has good intentions. He dreams of a world without war.

Everyone knows that the story value of this style of games lies in their characterization. This game lacks great characterization, but the members of the Dolhorn clan are good characters.

8. Mass Effect series: all the personal stories of the supporting characters (Mass Effect series: all the personal stories of the supporting characters)

Platform: consoles Sony and Microsoft, PCs, Wii U
Release year: 2007 to 2012

BingMag.com 10 side stories of games that are more interesting than the main story

Effect Jeremy has received a lot of praise, but I'm not one of its biggest fans. I will probably anger a lot of people by saying this, but friends, the original story is by Jeremy Daghan. It is exactly the story of Z Movie, which is made for teenage boys who are addicted to hormones. A charming, handsome, powerful, and wise commander who everyone compliments all the time and everyone in the galaxy wants to sleep with, single-handedly saves the world at least twice (or depending on the ending you get in Jeremy 3 , three times). He manages to unite warring clans, defeat invincible enemies and survive a series of impossible missions. Really careless! Even the story of James Bond movies is more logical.

But when the secondary characters are involved, the quality of the writing of the game is much better. All of them have unique, deep, interesting and meaningful characters. Among them, the following can be mentioned:

  • Liara, who in the first game comes out from under Shepard's shadow and becomes a Shadow Broker (Shadow Broker=head of a large and scary organization)
  • Thane, a professional killer who tries to prevent his son from becoming a killer like himself
  • Tali, a character who tries to be important and understand the meaning of cultural heritage
  • Urdnot Wrex, who brings civilization to warring clans
  • Miranda, who has a wonderful backstory as a scientist
  • li>
  • Mordin (Mordin) who is trying to get redemption for his past sins
  • Jack (Jack) who is trying to understand what it means to be human
  • Morinth (Morinth) who He wants to make amends for the injustice done to his daughter

Among these characters and their stories, I can't choose one as the best because they are all great. Also, all of them are miles better than the original story.

7. The story of Nina Williams in the Tekken series (Tekken series: Nina Williams's Story)

Platform: Sony and Microsoft consoles, personal computers, Wii U
Release year: 1994 to now

BingMag.com 10 side stories of games that are more interesting than the main story

The main story of the series is very straightforward. Dad hates his son and throws him into the volcano. The boy comes from the world of death to this world and throws Babajan into the volcano. Then the father throws the boy into the volcano. Then the grandson kicks the grandfather's testicles. Then the first cousin saves the grandson from becoming a devil. The boy turns into a devil... something in these ingredients. I was too busy pushing buttons and didn't understand many details. What I am saying is that there is as much supernatural horror going on in the Taken series as a Colombian melodrama series, a family drama, as much as a Chuck Norris movie, and as much as Battlefield Earth. The whole logic of these currents is something like the sex dreams of L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. Is the origin story of Tekken bad? Yes. Is it cool at the same time? Do not doubt. Being rude rains everywhere.

But the story of Nina Williams is an exception to this rule. His story is unique in addressing stereotypes. Maybe if it is defined briefly, it doesn't seem very special, and it is also defined briefly in games, but its depth is more than what it seems at first glance. The issue is that he lost his parents during his childhood. He has a love-hate relationship He has a sister. His job is professional killer. His memory is wiped and he is tasked with killing his son. My point is that unlike the other characters, Nina has a real personality, she goes through interesting events, her past casts a shadow over her present, her relationship with her sister is interesting, and she deserves to have her own game.

By the way, no, Tekken's Nina Williams in: Death by Degrees does not count.

6. Oasis side-mission in Fallout 3 (Fallout 3: Oasis side-mission)

Platform: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PCs
Release year: 2008

BingMag.com 10 side stories of games that are more interesting than the main story

But the mission of Oasis is different. In this mission, your choice is not between good or bad, but you have three choices ahead of you, all of which are equally good, and each choice is a reflection of your own morality.

As you are walking in the desert, You come across a place that is green and full of trees. It is very strange to see such a place in the heart of Telfzar. When you get involved in the mission, you will find out that the reason for this pleasant weather is a person named Harold. Harold's genes have merged with a tree and now he has become a tree man. Now he has roots deep in the earth and has survived in that spot for decades. He begs you to kill him because he is tired of suffering. The rest of the oasis dwellers have ignored Harold's pleas to die, preferring to continue living in this beautiful setting.

Now you have three choices. You can either kill him, or keep him alive for the oasis and its inhabitants, or do something to turn the entire wasteland into a green paradise. As you can see, this is not an easy choice. The question is, is the will of the individual preferable to the will of the group? Should a person sacrifice himself for society? Can a person be forced to sacrifice himself against his will? These are difficult questions that do not have definite answers.

5. The storyline of Laguna Loire in Final Fantasy 8 (Final Fantasy VIII: Laguna Loire Storyline)

Platform: PlayStation 1, PC
Year of publication: 1999

BingMag.com 10 side stories of games that are more interesting than the main story

If we believe that the main storyline of Final Fantasy 8 That's what we see in the game and the whole second disc doesn't take place inside Squall's dream before he dies...then we can say Laguna's story is better. In my opinion, the main story has much more depth than it seems. However, the popular view is otherwise. Fresh Laguna is also great. Other than that, I think he proves the theory above, as his main storyline is quite surreal.

Laguna Loyer is a temporary playable character in Final Fantasy 8. He wants to become a journalist, but he becomes a soldier. He is not a good soldier and falls in love with a hotel waiting room pianist named Julia. Julia sings "Eyes On Me" for him (available on YouTube). The romance between the two is given little time, but at the same time, it seems very convincing. Later, Laguna is injured and admitted to the hospital. When he recovers, he discovers that Julia has become a famous singer, but is married to another man. Laguna then falls in love with Raine, a girl who nursed him back to life. Then they get married. Laguna's friend is taken hostage and he must go on a mission to rescue her, while his wife is pregnant. I think that's enough story for now.

For most of the game, the player experiences Laguna's story through playable flashbacks that are presented to the player as the main character's dreams. Laguna could have been its own indie game champion. Why has he been treated like this in the game? Although it is never stated directly, it is implied that Laguna is Squall's father. In many ways he is a reflection of Squall, though very different from him (if he is Squall's father, then that means he loves his mother It was Rinoa).

This theory can be made even crazier and say that Squall and Rinoa are a new form of Laguna and Julia. This game is very strange and whatever the actual interpretation of the main story is, this side story has a central role in it.

4. The story of Mark Meltzer in BioShock 2 (BioShock 2: Mark Meltzer plot)

Platform: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC
Year of release: 2010

BingMag.com 10 side stories of games that are more interesting than the main story

I think BioShock 2 is a great game with a great story that It has not received enough attention. In the main storyline, you are a Big Daddy whose job it is to protect the Little Sisters. But you were given the responsibility of a special little sister who you lost and now you have to find her. Your enemy is a woman named Sophia Lamb, who in a way can be considered the human manifestation of the Utilitarianism school of thought. But the story of the game has another interesting aspect, and that is all the sub-stories that you can find out by finding the recorded tapes scattered in the game environment. You have to be patient and have a good memory to keep track of everything that happened. But in the end, the process of experiencing the story in this way will be very enjoyable.

Mark J. Meltzer is a man whose daughter has been taken hostage. He abandons his life, divorces his wife and embarks on a journey to find his kidnapped daughter. Finally, following the clues, he realizes that he must go to Rapture and tirelessly searches for a way to enter this underwater city. His path is full of danger and mystery. When he finally manages to find Rapture, he travels there with a smuggler and by water, and after going through many adventures, he finally arrives there. There he searches for Sophia Lamb in the hope that she may have information about her daughter. When he finally finds his daughter, he finds that she has become a little sister, and he decides to become a big daddy to stay with her forever. As the main character, you have the choice to kill him or not.

Why is this side story so special? Let me explain the reasons. The first reason is that this story line is defined by 19 texts and 8 audio tapes. Putting the story together piece by piece, as if you were a historian solving a puzzle, makes the experience very enjoyable. The second reason is that this story is very detailed. Even the main story of some games is not so detailed. This story is mysterious, full of suspense and emotional at the same time. For this reason, it is a great side story and deserves your attention.

3. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: The Dark Brotherhood Storyline (The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: The Dark Brotherhood Storyline)

Platform : Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC
Year of release: 2006

BingMag.com 10 side stories of games that are more interesting than the main story

Collection of scroll games Koen has the best gameplay of all time (if you disagree, that's fine). However, their main storyline is awful: the evil god has risen again and you have to kill him. All the main characters have very little presence and none of them show a memorable personality. The goal of the game is to give you the feeling of the most badass hero of all time, and the absence of a villain helps to achieve this goal, because there is no longer even Commander Shepard to play; Your character is like an avatar of yourself in the game world. However, the game's excellent subplots should not be overlooked.

Personally, I'd be willing to make a movie about the Dark Brotherhood subplot. The Dark Brotherhood is a group of stealth assassins who worship a god equivalent to the Void and receive their mission descriptions from the corpse of that god's wife. In Oblivion, if you kill an innocent person, the next time you wake up, you'll find yourself in an unexpected place. Now you can join the scariest and most dangerous organization of assassins. This organization has many creepy elements: an immortal horse, secret rooms and doors, plot twists, betrayal, moments that prove anyone can die and...

Basically, this storyline is a gothic novel set in a fantasy world. And it turned out great.

2. The story of Hollows and Hobbes in Fable III (Fable III: Hollows and Hobbes)

Platform: Xbox 360, PC
Release year: 2010

BingMag.com 10 side stories of games that are more interesting than the main story

The main story of Fable 3 is not bad. Of course, the game has many flaws, but the main idea behind it is very interesting. In this game, you overthrow your evil brother who is the king of a land during a revolution, but then you realize that he was right: you either have to be as evil and hateful as him, or you let the kingdom be destroyed (unless be very rich). but Whatever you think of the main story, the Hallows and Hobbs subplot is so quirky and clever that the rest of the game pales in comparison. Hallows and Hobbs help. These magicians shrink the hero using a magic orb and bring him into a game screen. Yes, your enemies are also pawns. But the great reason for this sub-mission to fail is not this crazy idea. The reason why it is great is the following:

  • The humor that flows in each line of dialogue of these magicians
  • The surreality of the mission world
  • The occurrence of crazy things one after the other On the other hand, from the Wizards

Until you play the game, you won't understand the depth of genius behind this mission.

Is there a game that has so many bugs, But is it worth buying just for one of its side missions? Yes, this game and because of this side mission.

1. Dragon Age: Origins: Morrigan's story (Dragon Age: Origins: Morrigan's story)

Platform: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PCs Personal
Year Released: 2009

BingMag.com 10 side stories of games that are more interesting than the main story

At first I didn't want to list this game. Because I'm so enamored with Morrigan's story that it's on my top 12 games of all time for that story alone. Therefore, in my opinion, Morrigan's story is the main story and the other story about killing dragons is a secondary story. However, if we look at it objectively, Morrigan's story is a subplot, which is why I would call it the best subplot of all time in video games. Of course, the main story is also very interesting and you have to kill a dragon (oh, did I say this before? I apologize!)

Dragon Age, like Jeremy's work, has more interesting side characters compared to the main story, and all of them They are both interesting and complex, but none of them come close to Morrigan, who is a writing miracle in her own right. Morrigan was raised by a witch and she doesn't know if she should be her friend or her enemy. His outlook and personality are very dark and full of anger, but his heart is pure. He is very intelligent and practical. Also he is very funny. You are helping him to realize the truth about himself and his past and to understand what he should do. You can also have a romantic relationship with him, which is the best romantic relationship in the series and ends in a very deep and engaging relationship. This relationship continues in the Awakening expansion pack and later the Witch Hunt DLC.

You have to experience the game to understand why her story is so different.

***

Okay, that's it. It should be noted that many excellent side stories were not added because the main story of the game was still more interesting.
