In this article, we named the top 50 films directed by women. The list includes first-time directors as well as plays by filmmakers and international movements. Statistics show that of the top 1,300 films produced between 2007 and 2019, only 4.8 percent were directed by women. During this period, Anne Fletcher made four films and Lana Wachowski three. Only 13 women from "Racial/Ethnic Restricted Groups" directed the top 1,300 films, or less than 1%. However, in the independent film circuit of US film festivals, 33% of the directors were women. Despite these sad statistics, women directors are making great films.
