Rating favorite movies from popular filmmakers is a common and enjoyable habit for moviegoers. But the filmmakers themselves usually avoid comparing the films they have made. The process of making a film can sometimes be so internal and personal that choosing one over the other for the filmmaker is like preferring one child and rejecting another. However, only a handful of filmmakers have explicitly made this comparison.

Some of Hollywood's leading directors have revealed which of their films at the end of their filmmaking careers or in a critique session in the heat of defense of their film. They like more. Sometimes their choices are predictable, and other times, shocking and unexpected.

Stanley Kubrick died just a few days after completing the film version of Eyes Wide Shut, so he didn't have much time to comment on the final product.
